Setup & support

Email trifocal.store@gmail.com for help or privacy requests. Include your Chrome version and what you were trying to do. Never send passwords or PINs by email.

10-minute setup

  1. Install Parent Shield from the Chrome Web Store on the child's Chrome profile.
  2. Open the extension icon and set your 4–6 digit parent PIN.
  3. In Settings, confirm the daily limit, bedtime window and any extra blocked sites. Save.
  4. Test it: open an AI chat site, wait for the launcher state, and try "Pause AI chats now" from the popup — the lock screen should appear until you enter the PIN.

Covering "everything else" — the free DNS layer

No extension can know every harmful site or image — anyone claiming that is lying. For million-domain coverage (including phones, apps and games), add a free family DNS filter: create a free account at NextDNS.io or Cisco's OpenDNS FamilyShield, enable the parental preset, and apply it on your router or each device. Layered together: DNS filter (whole home) + Parent Shield strict list & SafeSearch lock (browser) + supervised profile (can't uninstall) = the strongest practical setup.

Making it stick (younger teens)

Use a supervised Chrome profile via Google Family Link on the child's account. Supervised profiles let a parent force-install extensions the child cannot remove or disable. On an unsupervised profile, a determined teen can uninstall any extension — Parent Shield included.

What gets filtered

Explicit sexual, violence and drug content in AI replies is blurred with a label. Self-harm language triggers a crisis banner with helpline resources (US: call/text 988; worldwide directory: findahelpline.com). General school or hobby chats are not filtered.

Common issues

Parent Shield is a support tool for families, not medical or psychological care. If a young person is in danger, contact emergency services or a crisis helpline immediately.
