Privacy Policy

Effective date: October 26, 2026 · Parent Shield Chrome extension v0.1

Parent Shield protects teens on AI chat sites entirely on the device. Chat conversations are never uploaded. Only local protection events (category + timestamp + site) and usage totals are stored in the browser, behind the parent PIN.

1. Who is responsible

This policy describes data handled by the developer of Parent Shield. Questions and privacy requests: trifocal.store@gmail.com.

2. What the extension processes

On supported AI chat sites, Parent Shield examines visible page text locally to detect sexual, violence, drug and self-harm content, then blurs matching replies or shows a crisis-support banner. The text is processed in memory and discarded; it is not transmitted anywhere and not stored as transcripts.

3. Data stored on the device

All of this lives in Chrome's local extension storage on the device. It is not synced to a Google account and not uploaded.

4. Optional Pro features (not yet on sale)

Pro will add parent alerts, weekly email reports and CSV export, delivered through a configurable licence service. When enabled, activation sends a licence key and a random browser identifier to the licence server shown in the extension; verification sends an activation token. Reports you choose to generate contain event metadata (categories, times, sites) and totals — not chat transcripts. Pro checkout remains disabled until the developer publishes purchase terms and completes live payment testing.

5. How data is used and shared

Local data is used only to enforce the family's settings and show the parent dashboard. Parent Shield does not sell data, does not use it for advertising or credit decisions, and shares nothing except: service providers strictly needed for hosting, payments or email support once Pro is live, and disclosures required by law. The use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including Limited Use requirements.

6. Retention and deletion

Events are capped at the 500 most recent and usage totals accumulate per day on the device. Uninstalling the extension or clearing extension data removes everything local. Exported CSV files are under your control afterwards. For Pro data requests, email the contact above.

7. Security and children

The extension is designed for installation on a child's supervised browser profile by a parent. The PIN is stored only as a SHA-256 hash. No method of storage is perfectly secure; the parent PIN protects settings on a shared device but cannot control browsers where the extension is not installed. Parent Shield is a support tool, not a substitute for conversation and, where needed, professional help. In an emergency, call your local emergency number.
