Questions parents ask
Can my teen just uninstall it?
On a supervised Chrome profile (Family Link), parents can force-install extensions the child cannot remove. On an unsupervised profile a determined teen could remove it — we recommend supervised profiles for younger teens.
Does it read or record my child's conversations?
It scans visible text on the device to apply filters, then discards it. Only category labels and timestamps are kept locally for your dashboard. Nothing is uploaded.
Which sites does it cover?
ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Character.AI, Replika, Poe and Discord-style AI chats, plus any extra sites you add to the block list. Coverage grows with updates.
Does it work on phones?
No — Chrome extensions run on desktop Chrome and Chromebooks. Phone monitoring needs a mobile parental-control app; Parent Shield covers the browser gap they miss.
Will it flag harmless homework chats?
Filters target explicit sexual, violence, drug and self-harm content. General school questions are unaffected. The crisis banner errs on the side of showing help resources.
